Imagine Your Story:  2020 Summer Reading Challenge

The 2020 Summer Reading Challenge theme is Imagine Your Story! Explore the world of fairy and folk tales, fantasy, history, biography, genealogy and your own personal stories as you continue to grow and change.  Let your curiosity fly free to learn new things, dream big dreams, or just settle down with a good story.

This year we are introducing a new Summer Reading Challenge resource: READsquared.  This digital reading platform is designed to allow families and individuals to record their summer reading virtually through the READsquared website or app.  Points are given for participating in reading, missions, and events, and badges are awarded at certain milestones.  Hitting these milestones also unlocks mini-games to play.

As this is our first year using READsquared and we haven't had much time to dig into it, there may be some bumps and bugs to work out along the way.  Please have mercy on us as we work to get READsquared running as smoothly as possible.

READsquared was made possible with a Cares Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the New Hampshire State Library  to support virtual summer reading during the pandemic and help prevent the "summer slide."

Sign-Up FAQs

Q:  Do I need a library card to sign-up?
A:  You do not.  Just leave that blank in the registration form.

Residents of Litchfield are invited to sign-up for a free library card.  While we are closed to the public, you can email us your request for a library card and we will get you set-up.

Q:  When can I sign-up?
A:  The Summer Reading Challenge begins on July 5th and ends August 1st.  You can sign-up any time before, on, or after June 16th.

Q:  Do I need to be a Litchfield resident to sign-up?
A:   You do not need to be a resident to earn badges, unlock mini-games, and receive a certificate.  However, you do need to be a resident to win raffle prizes.

Q:  I have two children.  Do I create an account for both of them?
A:  You don't have to.  As the adult you can create one family account that will include all of your children.

When you click on 'register,' select 'myself and children.'  You must register yourself first--you can register yourself in the Adult challenge or you can leave it blank--and then follow the prompts to register your children. With a family account, each child will have their own tracking/badges/missions within the account, and you can easily toggle between family members.

That being said, children are welcome to have their own accounts.

Q:  Where do we sign-up?
A:  You sign-up here on READsquared.

Q: Our neighbor doesn't have access to a computer.  How can they participate?
A:  If the person has access to a smartphone or tablet, they can access the program through the READsquared app.  If they need help registering through the app they can call us at 603-424-4044 for assistance.

If they don't have access to a computer or smart phone, please have them call us at 603-424-4040 and let us know.  We can mail them a paper reading log so they can keep track at home, and we can input their progress into READsquared so that they are still eligible for prizes.  We will also mail them their earned badges and prizes when they are available.
