Celebrate National Poetry Month

April is National Poetry Month! Sponsored by the Academy of American Poets, National Poetry Month strives to bring poets and their poetry to the public is innovative ways, encourage people to read poetry for pleasure, and highlight the legacy of American poetry.

Here at the library, we are asking patrons of all ages to participate in a collaborative poetry excercise called the Poet-Tree. When you come in, we will ask you fill in a slip of paper with a single word. That word will be used to compose a line of poetry, and a leaf on our tree. The results are sure to be entertaining if nothing else. (To participate from home.)

We are also giving the gift of poetry this month. Each week, patrons will receive a poem with every check-out to take home, read, and pass on.

If you would like to receive more than one poem a week, you should sign up for Poem-a-Day, and Poets.org will send one new poem to your inbox each day in April.
