| The Readers of the Round Table, a high school book discussion group, read Odin's Ravens by K. L. Armstrong for their December 23rd gathering at 4:15PM. Copies of the book are available in the Teen Area on the upper level of the library. Need a ride? Campbell High School students can take the late bus from school to the library. About the Book Seven kids, Thor's hammer, and a whole lot of Valkyries are the only things standing against the end of the world. When thirteen-year-old Matt Thorsen, a modern day descendant of the Norse god Thor, was chosen to represent Thor in an epic battle to prevent the apocalypse he thought he knew how things would play out. Gather the descendants standing in for gods like Loki and Odin, defeat a giant serpent, and save the world. No problem, right? But the descendants' journey grinds to a halt when their friend and descendant Baldwin is poisoned and killed and Matt, Fen, and Laurie must travel to the Underworld in the hopes of saving him. But that's only their first stop on their journey to reunite the challengers, find Thor's hammer, and stop the apocalypse--a journey filled with enough tooth-and-nail battles and larger-than-life monsters to make Matt a legend in his own right. |

Book Bunch Reads The Last Holiday Concert for December
About the Book
It didn't sound like much, but it was a big idea. A very big idea.
It all started when Hart Evans
zinged a rubber band that hit Mr. Meinert, the chorus director.
Actually, it started before that, when Mr. Meinert learned he was out of
a job because the town budget couldn't afford music and art teachers.
Mr. Meinert got so mad at Hart that he told the sixth graders he'd had
it -- they could produce the big holiday concert on their own. Or not.
It was all up to them.
What happens when a teacher steps
aside and lets the kids run the show? Not what Mr. Meinert would have
predicted. And not what Hart Evans would have guessed, not at all.

| About the Movie Sherlock Holmes is a 2009 British–American action mystery film based on the character of the same name created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. The film was directed by Guy Ritchie and produced by Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin. The screenplay by Michael Robert Johnson, Anthony Peckham and Simon Kinberg was developed from a story by Lionel Wigram and Michael Robert Johnson. Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law portray Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson respectively. In the film, Holmes and his companion Watson, with aid from former adversary Irene Adler, investigate a series of murders connected to occult rituals. Mark Strong plays the villain Lord Blackwood, who has somehow returned from the dead after his execution with a plot to take over the British Empire using an arsenal of dark arts and new technologies. History Buffs Read The River of Doubt for November
About the Book
At once an incredible adventure narrative and a penetrating biographical portrait, The River of Doubt is the true story of Theodore Roosevelt’s harrowing exploration of one of the most dangerous rivers on earth.
The River of Doubt—it is a black, uncharted tributary of the Amazon that snakes through one of the most treacherous jungles in the world. Indians armed with poison-tipped arrows haunt its shadows; piranhas glide through its waters; boulder-strewn rapids turn the river into a roiling cauldron.
After his humiliating election defeat in 1912, Roosevelt set his sights on the most punishing physical challenge he could find, the first descent of an unmapped, rapids-choked tributary of the Amazon. Together with his son Kermit and Brazil’s most famous explorer, Cândido Mariano da Silva Rondon, Roosevelt accomplished a feat so great that many at the time refused to believe it. In the process, he changed the map of the western hemisphere forever.
Along the way, Roosevelt and his men faced an unbelievable series of hardships, losing their canoes and supplies to punishing whitewater rapids, and enduring starvation, Indian attack, disease, drowning, and a murder within their own ranks.
