Be Prepared
The Town of Litchfield has been posting the following emergency preparedness tidbits on their Facebook page:
With a potential hurricane approaching, it’s a good time to make sure your emergency preparations are in order. Check out this brochure from the State of NH: Preparing for an Emergency: The Smart Thing to Do.
If you know someone who will need access to electricity during a power outage for their medical care, provide the Fire Department with the person’s contact information at 424-8071 or email litchfieldfire@comcast.net.
Encourage anyone you know living in a mobile home to make plans to stay with family or friends in a permanent structure.
Gather food, water, batteries and medical supplies for at least 3 days.
Bring all loose outdoor items inside, such as lawn chairs, planters, toys and trash cans, as they can become projectiles in high winds.
The Litchfield Emergency Management Team is reviewing their preparations for this weekend’s potential hurricane, and will use the Town’s Facebook page as one of the places residents can get additional information as the situation develops.

Book Bunch Reads The Strange Case of Origami Yoda for August 24th
Tom Angleberger's The Strange Case of Origami Yoda has been selected as the next Book Bunch read. Kids age 9-11 can stop in and pick up a copy at the Circulation Desk in the Young Readers' Room, then join Miss Carrie-Anne and the gang on Wednesday, August 24th at 2:00 for discussion and fun!
From the Publisher
In this funny, uncannily wise portrait of the dynamics of a sixth-grade class and of the greatness that sometimes comes in unlikely packages, Dwight, a loser, talks to his classmates via an origami finger puppet of Yoda. If that weren’t strange enough, the puppet is uncannily wise and prescient. Origami Yoda predicts the date of a pop quiz, guesses who stole the classroom Shakespeare bust, and saves a classmate from popularity-crushing embarrassment with some well-timed advice. Dwight’s classmate Tommy wonders how Yoda can be so smart when Dwight himself is so clueless. With contributions from his puzzled classmates, he assembles the case file that forms this novel.

To save their business from ruin, thirty-three-year-old Valentine Roncalli—apprentice to and granddaughter of master artisan Teodora Angelini—must bring the family's old-world craftsmanship into the twenty-first century. Juggling her budding romance with dashing chef Roman Falconi, her duty to her family, and a design challenge presented by a prestigious department store, Valentine returns to Italy with her grandmother in a quest to build a pair of glorious shoes to beat their rivals. And in the course of discovering her true artistic voice and so much more in la bella Italia, Valentine will be turning her life and the business upside down in ways she never expected.

From the Publisher
Just when she's finally figured out how to manage on her own, Jill Murray's ex-husband, Seth, is back crashing into the man-free existence Jill and her ten-year-old daughter, Anastasia, have built so carefully. Jill's life just hasn't turned out quite the way she'd planned. By now, she'd hoped to be jetting around the world as a high-end cultural coach. Instead, she's answering phones for a local travel agency and teaching cooking classes at the community center. Enter free-spirited entrepreneur Billy who hires Jill as a consultant for an upcoming business trip. Suddenly, her no-boys-allowed life is anything but.
They say that every seven years you become a completely new person, but Jill isn't sure she's ready to make the leap. It takes a Costa Rican getaway to help her make a choice not so much between the two men in her life, but between the woman she is and the woman she wants to be.
