Web Catalog Address Changed

I should have mentioned this yesterday. (Duh.) For those of you who have bookmarked the web catalog, the address is now http://75.67.225.26:85/winnebago/search/search.asp?lib=4576. We will be looking into getting a static IP address so this doesn't happen in the future.

Just Wondering on Wednesday...

background image courtesy of biewoefSo it's Wednesday and as I'm choosing a new book to read, I'm just wondering...

How do you read a book? Do you read the summary and all the blurbs on the jacket or cover first? Do you read the preface or introduction if the book has one? Or do you just skip right to the first chapter? And if there are any, do you read the afterward or author notes at the end? Do you read the ending first?

So many questions begging to be answered. Click on "comments" below and share your thoughts with us.

All Booked Up Reads The Other Boleyn Girl for April

Philippa Gregory's The Other Boleyn Girl will be the topic of discussion at the April 1st meeting of All Booked Up.

About the Book: When Mary Boleyn comes to court as an innocent girl of fourteen, she catches the eye of Henry VIII. Dazzled by the king, Mary falls in love with both her golden prince and her growing role as unofficial queen. However, she soon realizes just how much she is a pawn in her family's ambitious plots as the king's interest begins to wane and she is forced to step aside for her best friend and rival: her sister, Anne. Then Mary knows that she must defy her family and her king, and take her fate into her own hands. A rich and compelling tale of love, sex, ambition, and intrigue, The Other Boleyn Girl introduces a woman of extraordinary determination and desire who lived at the heart of the most exciting and glamorous court in Europe and survived by following her own heart. Pick up your copy at the Main Desk and join the group at the library on Wednesday, April 1st at 6:30 p.m.

Song of the Crow is the Book of the Month in March

book coverOur featured novel for March is Song of the Crow by Layne Maheu.

From the moment that he looks down on the ancient gray head of Noah, who is swinging his stone axe, the narrating crow in this unique and remarkable epic knows that these creators called Man are trouble. He senses, too, that the natural order of things is about to change. At a time when so many of us are searching for meaning, Layne Maheu’s debut novel lingers in a masterfully rendered ancient world just long enough to ponder our fears of disaster and to watch as humanity struggles to survive, to understand, and finally to prevail. Copies are availabe at the Circulation Desk.

Try This Reading Challenge

9 for '09 logoI don't know about you, but I have a small book case filled with books I've collected to read. The problem is I seem to find books to add to this book case faster than I can actually read what's already there. Yesterday, I came across a reading challenge website to help people clean out those to be reads (TBR). It's called 9 for '09. There are nine categories of books including long, free, dusty, used, letter, strange, distance, alive or not, and cover. You pick one title from your TBRs for each category, and make a committment to finish them in 2009. As you finish each book, you post a comment about the book to appropriate category on the 9 for '09 website.

Since that book case I told you about has now spilled over into a stack (or 2) on the floor, I think I'll give this a try. If you have a similar problem, you may want to join me. As soon as I choose my 9 titles, I will enter them as a comment to this post, and I hope you'll do the same!
