WANTED: Library Trustee Alternate

Do you know someone you think would make a great advocate for our public library? Maybe they are hesitant to run for an elected office?  Becoming a Library Trustee Alternate is a great way to test the waters and see if it's a good fit as Alternates are generally appointed for a renewable one-year term.

Trustee Alternates serve alongside elected Trustees and the Library Director to provide quality library service to our community. We are looking for people to serve as community advocates for library services in addition to setting library policy and direction.

If you would like to find out more about what Trustee Alternates do, stop by the library, or click on the links below.

New deadline for application is September 30th.

Copies of the book are available in the Young Readers' Room.

About the Book
What makes Isaiah so unique? First, his fur is as blue as the sky--which until recently was something he'd never seen, but had read all about. That's right--Isaiah can read, and write. He can also talk to humans...if any of them are willing to listen! After a dramatic escape from a mysterious laboratory, Isaiah is separated from his "mischief" (which is the word for a mouse family), and has to use his special skills to survive in the dangerous outdoors, and hopefully find his missing family. But in a world of cruel cats, hungry owls, and terrified people, it's hard for a young, lone mouse to make it alone. When he meets an equally unusual and lonely human girl named Hailey, the two soon learn that true friendship can transcend all barriers.

Tween Book Group Reads Where You'll Find Me for September 14th

Tween Book Group Reads "Where You'll Find Me" for September 14, 2017
Page Turners, our book group for tweens in grades 6-8, is reading Where You'll Find Me by Natasha Friend for their get-together at LMS on Thursday, September 14th right after school.  The group begins with an after school snack, followed by a discussion of the book, and a short activity.

Copies of the book are available in the upper-level Teen area and the lower- level Young Readers’ Room.

About the Book
The first month of school, thirteen-year-old Anna Collette finds herself...

DUMPED by her best friend Dani, who suddenly wants to spend eighth grade "hanging out with different people."

DESERTED by her mom, who's in the hospital recovering from a suicide attempt.

TRAPPED in a house with her dad, a new baby sister, and a stepmother young enough to wear her Delta Delta Delta sweatshirt with pride.

STUCK at a lunch table with Shawna the Eyebrow Plucker and Sarabeth the Irish Stepper because she has no one else to sit with.

But what if all isn't lost? What if Anna's mom didn't exactly mean to leave her? What if Anna's stepmother is cooler than she thought? What if the misfit lunch table isn't such a bad fit after all? With help from some unlikely sources, including a crazy girl-band talent show act, Anna just may find herself on the road to okay.

Adult Book Group Reads The Aviator's Wife for September 1st or 6th

Adult Book Group Reads "The Aviator's Wife" for September 1st or 6th, 2017
Melanie Benjamin’s The Aviator's Wife is the chosen title for All Booked Up’s discussion on Friday, September 1st at 1:00PM or Wednesday, September 6th at 6:30PM.  Copies of the book are available in the upper level “New” room.

About the Book
When Anne Morrow, a shy college senior with hidden literary aspirations, travels to Mexico City to spend Christmas with her family, she meets Colonel Charles Lindbergh, fresh off his celebrated 1927 solo flight across the Atlantic. Enthralled by Charles’s assurance and fame, Anne is certain the aviator has scarcely noticed her. But she is wrong. Charles sees in Anne a kindred spirit, a fellow adventurer, and her world will be changed forever. The two marry in a headline-making wedding. In the years that follow, Anne becomes the first licensed female glider pilot in the United States. But despite this and other major achievements, she is viewed merely as the aviator’s wife. The fairy-tale life she once longed for will bring heartbreak and hardships, ultimately pushing her to reconcile her need for love and her desire for independence, and to embrace, at last, life’s infinite possibilities for change and happiness.

August's Book of the Month is Sweetbitter

August 2017's Book of the Month is "Sweetbitter"
Sweetbitter by Stephanie Danler is our featured title for August. Copies are available in the “New” room on the upper level of the library.

About the Book
Newly arrived in New York City, twenty-two-year-old Tess lands a job working front of house at a celebrated downtown restaurant. What follows is her education: in champagne and cocaine, love and lust, dive bars and fine dining rooms, as she learns to navigate the chaotic, enchanting, punishing life she has chosen. The story of a young woman’s coming-of-age, set against the glitzy, grimy backdrop of New York’s most elite restaurants, in Sweetbitter Stephanie Danler deftly conjures the nonstop and high-adrenaline world of the food industry and evokes the infinite possibilities, the unbearable beauty, and the fragility and brutality of being young and adrift.
