Tween Book Group Reads Shadow and Bone for July 13th

Tween Book Group Reads "Shadow and Bone" for July 13, 2017
Page Turners, our book group for tweens in grades 6-8, is reading Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo for their get-together on Thursday, July 13th @ 2:30PM.  The group begins with an after school snack, followed by a discussion of the book, and a short activity.

Copies of the book are available in the upper-level Teen area and the lower- level Young Readers’ Room.

About the Book
Soldier. Summoner. Saint. Orphaned and expendable, Alina Starkov is a soldier who knows she may not survive her first trek across the Shadow Fold—a swath of unnatural darkness crawling with monsters. But when her regiment is attacked, Alina unleashes dormant magic not even she knew she possessed.

Now Alina will enter a lavish world of royalty and intrigue as she trains with the Grisha, her country’s magical military elite—and falls under the spell of their notorious leader, the Darkling. He believes Alina can summon a force capable of destroying the Shadow Fold and reuniting their war-ravaged country, but only if she can master her untamed gift.
As the threat to the kingdom mounts and Alina unlocks the secrets of her past, she will make a dangerous discovery that could threaten all she loves and the very future of a nation.

Welcome to Ravka . . . a world of science and superstition where nothing is what it seems.

Adult Book Group Reads The Woman in Cabin 10 for July 5th or 7th

Adult Book Group Reads "The Woman in Cabin 10" for July 5 or 7, 2017
Ruth Ware’s The Woman in Cabin 10 is the chosen title for All Booked Up’s discussion on Wednesday, July 5th at 6:30PM or Friday, July 7th at 1:00PM.  Copies of the book are available in the upper level “New” room.

About the Book
In this tightly wound, enthralling story reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s works, Lo Blacklock, a journalist who writes for a travel magazine, has just been given the assignment of a lifetime: a week on a luxury cruise with only a handful of cabins. The sky is clear, the waters calm, and the veneered, select guests jovial as the exclusive cruise ship, the Aurora, begins her voyage in the picturesque North Sea. At first, Lo’s stay is nothing but pleasant: the cabins are plush, the dinner parties are sparkling, and the guests are elegant. But as the week wears on, frigid winds whip the deck, gray skies fall, and Lo witnesses what she can only describe as a dark and terrifying nightmare: a woman being thrown overboard. The problem? All passengers remain accounted for—and so, the ship sails on as if nothing has happened, despite Lo’s desperate attempts to convey that something (or someone) has gone terribly, terribly wrong…

With surprising twists, spine-tingling turns, and a setting that proves as uncomfortably claustrophobic as it is eerily beautiful, Ruth Ware offers up another taut and intense read in The Woman in Cabin 10—one that will leave even the most sure-footed reader restlessly uneasy long after the last page is turned.

June's Book of the Month is Drizzled in Death

June 2017's Book of the Month is "Drizzled in Death"
Drizzled in Death by Jessie Crockett is our featured title for June. Jessie will be on hand for an author chat on Wednesday, June 14th at 2:00PM in the library! Copies are available in the “New” room on the upper level of the library.

About the Book
Meet Dani Greene—a fourth-generation maple syrup maker dealing with a first-class troublemaker…

The annual pre-Thanksgiving pancake-eating contest is a big event in Sugar Grove, New Hampshire. It’s sponsored by the Sap Bucket Brigade, aka the firefighters auxiliary, and the Greene family farm provides the syrup. But when obnoxious outsider Alanza Speedwell flops face first into a stack of flapjacks during the contest, Greener Pastures’ syrup falls under suspicion.

Dani knows the police—including her ex-boyfriend—are barking up the wrong tree, and she’s determined to pull her loved ones out of a very sticky situation. The odds may be stacked against her, but she’s got to tap the real killer before some poor sap in her own family ends up trading the sugar house for the Big House…
Drizzled in Death is the first in a series!
