Kid's Book Group Reads A Whole New Ballgame for July 20th

Kid's Book Group Reads "A Whole New Ballgame" for July 20, 2016
Join Book Bunch for their July 20th get-together at 4:00PM.  The group discusses A Whole New Ballgame by Phil Bildner, followed by a fun activity.  Books are available in the Young Readers' Room.

About the Book
Rip and Red are best friends whose fifth-grade year is nothing like what they expected. They have a crazy new tattooed teacher named Mr. Acevedo, who doesn't believe in tests or homework and who likes off-the-wall projects, the more "off" the better. And guess who's also their new basketball coach? Mr. Acevedo! Easy-going Rip is knocked completely out of his comfort zone. And for Red, who has autism and really needs things to be exactly a certain way, the changes are even more of a struggle. But together these two make a great duo who know how to help each other—and find ways to make a difference—in the classroom and on the court.

With its energetic and authentic story and artwork, A Whole New Ballgame by Phil Bildner is a fresh, fun book about school, sports, and friendship.

Tween Book Group Reads The Only Ones for July 14th

Tween Book Group Reads "The Only Ones" for July 14, 2016
The Only Ones by Aaron Starmer is the July selection for Page Turners, our book group for tweens in grades 6-8.  Join the group on Thursday, July 14th @ 2:30PM for a snack, discussion and short activity.

Copies of the book are available in both the Teen Area and  Young Readers' Room.

About the Book
"Call it coincidence, call it fate. This is the place you come. There's no one else. This is the entire world."

These words welcome Martin Maple to the village of Xibalba. Like the other children who've journeyed there, he faces an awful truth.

He was forgotten.

When families and friends all disappeared one afternoon, these were the only ones left behind.
There's Darla, who drives a monster truck, Felix, who uses string and wood to rebuild the Internet, Lane, who crafts elaborate contraptions, and nearly 40 others, each equally brilliant and peculiar.

Inspired by the prophesies of a mysterious boy who talks to animals, Martin believes he can reunite them with their loved ones. But believing and knowing are two different things, as he soon discovers with the push of a button, flip of a switch, turn of a dial. . . .

Adult Book Group Reads Fates and Furies for July 1st or 6th

Adult Book Group Reads "Fates and Furies" for July 1 or 6, 2016
All Booked Up's selection for June is Fates and Furies by Lauren Groff. Join the Friday afternoon group on July 1st at 1:00PM or the Wednesday evening group on July 6th at 6:30PM.

Copies of the book are available on the Upper Level of the library.

About the Book
Fates and Furies is a literary masterpiece that defies expectation. A dazzling examination of a marriage, it is also a portrait of creative partnership written by one of the best writers of her generation.

Every story has two sides. Every relationship has two perspectives. And sometimes, it turns out, the key to a great marriage is not its truths but its secrets. At the core of this rich, expansive, layered novel, Lauren Groff presents the story of one such marriage over the course of twenty-four years.

At age twenty-two, Lotto and Mathilde are tall, glamorous, madly in love, and destined for greatness. A decade later, their marriage is still the envy of their friends, but with an electric thrill we understand that things are even more complicated and remarkable than they have seemed. With stunning revelations and multiple threads, and in prose that is vibrantly alive and original, Groff delivers a deeply satisfying novel about love, art, creativity, and power that is unlike anything that has come before it. Profound, surprising, propulsive, and emotionally riveting, it stirs both the mind and the heart.

The Little Paris Bookshop is the Book of the Month in June

"The Little Paris Bookshop" is the Book of the Month in June 2016
The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George is our featured novel in June. Copies are available in the "New" room on the upper level of the library.

About the Book
Monsieur Perdu can prescribe the perfect book for a broken heart. But can he fix his own?

Monsieur Perdu calls himself a literary apothecary. From his floating bookstore in a barge on the Seine, he prescribes novels for the hardships of life. Using his intuitive feel for the exact book a reader needs, Perdu mends broken hearts and souls. The only person he can't seem to heal through literature is himself; he's still haunted by heartbreak after his great love disappeared. She left him with only a letter, which he has never opened.

After Perdu is finally tempted to read the letter, he hauls anchor and departs on a mission to the south of France, hoping to make peace with his loss and discover the end of the story. Joined by a bestselling but blocked author and a lovelorn Italian chef, Perdu travels along the country’s rivers, dispensing his wisdom and his books, showing that the literary world can take the human soul on a journey to heal itself.
