Murder is Binding is the Book of the Month in June

"Murder is Binding" is the Book of the Month in June 2015
Murder is Binding by Lorna Barrett is our featured novel for June. Copies are available in the "New Room" on the upper level of the library.

 About the Book
The streets of Stoneham, New Hampsire are lined with bookstores...and paved with murder.

When she moved to Stoneham, city slicker Tricia Miles met nothing but friendly faces. And when she opened her mystery bookstore, she met friendly competition. But when she finds Doris Gleason dead in her own cookbook store, killed by a carving knife, the atmosphere seems more cutthroat than cordial. Someone wanted to get their hands on the rare cookbook that Doris had recently purchased-and the locals think that someone is Tricia. To clear her name, Tricia will have to take a page out of one of her own mysteries-and hunt down someone who isn't killing by the book.

Adult Book Discussion Group Reads The Art Forger for July 1st

Adult Book Discussion Group Reads "The Art Forger" for July 1, 2015
The Art Forger by B.A. Shapiro is the title of choice for All Booked Up's July 1st meeting at 6:30PM.   Copies of the book are available on the Upper Level of the library.

About the Book
Almost twenty-five years after the infamous art heist at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum—still the largest unsolved art theft in history—one of the stolen Degas paintings is delivered to the Boston studio of a young artist. Claire Roth has entered into a Faustian bargain with a powerful gallery owner by agreeing to forge the Degas in exchange for a one-woman show in his renowned gallery. But as she begins her work, she starts to suspect that this long-missing masterpiece—the very one that had been hanging at the Gardner for one hundred years—may itself be a forgery. The Art Forger is a thrilling novel about seeing—and not seeing—the secrets that lie beneath the canvas.

History Buffs Read Blood Royal for June 23rd

History Buffs Read "Blood Royal" for June 23, 2015
Blood Royal: A True Tale of Crime and Detection in Medieval Paris by Eric Jager is the discussion book for the June 23rd meeting of History Buffs.  This adult book discussion group meets at 10:30AM on the 4th Tuesday of each month.

About the Book
A riveting true story of murder and detection in 15th-century Paris, by one of the most brilliant medievalists of his generation.

On a chilly November night in 1407, Louis of Orleans was murdered by a band of masked men. The crime stunned and paralyzed France since Louis had often ruled in place of his brother King Charles, who had gone mad. As panic seized Paris, an investigation began. In charge was the Provost of Paris, Guillaume de Tignonville, the city's chief law enforcement officer—and one of history's first detectives. As de Tignonville began to investigate, he realized that his hunt for the truth was much more dangerous than he ever could have imagined.

A rich portrait of a distant world, BLOOD ROYAL is a gripping story of conspiracy, crime and an increasingly desperate hunt for the truth. And in Guillaume de Tignonville, we have an unforgettable detective for the ages, a classic gumshoe for a cobblestoned era.  (bn.com)

High School Book Group Reads "Prodigy" for June 25, 2015

Readers of the Round Table, a high school book discussion group, reads Prodigy by Marie Lu for their June 25th gathering at 4:15PM. Prodigy is the 2nd book in The Legends Trilogy. Copies of the book are available in the Teen Area on the upper level of the library.

Need a ride? Campbell High School students can take the late bus from school to the library.

About the Book
June and Day arrive in Vegas just as the unthinkable happens: the Elector Primo dies, and his son Anden takes his place. With the Republic edging closer to chaos, the two join a group of Patriot rebels eager to help Day rescue his brother and offer passage to the Colonies. They have only one request—June and Day must assassinate the new Elector.

It’s their chance to change the nation, to give voice to a people silenced for too long.

But as June realizes this Elector is nothing like his father, she’s haunted by the choice ahead. What if Anden is a new beginning? What if revolution must be more than loss and vengeance, anger and blood—what if the Patriots are wrong?
