Dreaming Divas Was Fun For All

Ten girls joined us at the library Wednesday night for the Dreaming Divas Hair & Nail Party with stylist Caitlyn Shafer.  The group had a terrific time! Caitlyn began by showing a number of hair styles on celebrities, then demonstrating the techniques on the girls.  Grace got a "fishtail," Libby received "beach hair," and Alana was given "barrel curls" from a curling iron, while Michelle received her curls from a flat iron.  Caitlyn shared spring and summer fashion examples, as well as do's and don'ts for makeup and tanning.  The girls finished out the evening with fun nail art techniques using magnetic polish, crackle, and other designs.  Needless to say, they all went home with gorgeous hair and/or nails.

Summary
One night a plane appeared out of nowhere, the only passengers aboard: thirty-six babies. As soon as they were taken off the plane, it vanished. Now, thirteen years later, two of those children are receiving sinister messages, and they begin to investigate their past. Their quest to discover where they really came from leads them to a conspiracy that reaches from the far past to the distant future—and will take them hurtling through time. In this exciting new series, bestselling author Margaret Peterson Haddix brings an element of suspense that will keep readers on the edge of their seats. (Book 1 of The Missing series)

Book Bunch Reads The Saturdays for August

book cover
The Saturdays has been selected as August's Book Bunch read. Kids in grades 3rd-5th can stop in and pick up a copy at the Circulation Desk in the Young Readers' Room, then join Miss Carrie-Anne and the gang on Wednesday, August 15th at 4:00 for discussion and fun!

Summary
Meet the Melendys! The four Melendy children live with their father and Cuffy, their beloved housekeeper, in a worn but comfortable brownstone in New York City. There's thirteen-year-old Mona, who has decided to become an actress; twelve-year-old mischievous Rush; ten-and-a-half-year-old Randy, who loves to dance and paint; and thoughtful Oliver, who is just six.
Tired of wasting Saturdays doing nothing but wishing for larger allowances, the four Melendys jump at Randy's idea to start the Independent Saturday Afternoon Adventure Club (I.S.A.A.C.). If they pool their resources and take turns spending the whole amount, they can each have at least one memorable Saturday afternoon of their own. Before long, I.S.A.A.C. is in operation and every Saturday is definitely one to remember.

Are You a "Book Spine Poet"?

This first poem came from the home library of BL.
Book Spine Poetry began this week at the library as part of the Between the Covers summer reading club for adults.

Here's how it works:
1.  Peruse the titles of your books at home, or the collection we've assembled here at the library.
2.  Find titles, that when read in sequence, create a poem.
3.  Select your books, stack them in order, and email us a photo.

The poem in the picture reads:
Life goes on,
One day at a time,
A big little life
Building a home full of grace,
Choosing to see
Heaven is now.

Great job, BL!
