How to Find Great Information on the Series You're Reading

There a few common questions people ask when they are reading through a series:
1.  What is the next book in the series?
2.  I love this series! Are there any others like it?
3.  I'd like to use this book to a) do a book report or b) as a suggestion for my book group--do you have any information on it?

The Hunger Games is showing a resurgence in popularity since the movie came out, so let's use it as an example in answering these 3 questions using NoveList.

Question #1: What is the next book in the series?
1. Enter Hunger Games in the Search box in NoveList.
2. Select the Series radio button, and click Search.
3. This will take you directly to the Series Detail page, where you'll find all of the information NoveList has to offer on this series.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page for a list of series titles in reading order.
5. Click Print This View to print a list you can take with you.

Question #2:  I love this series! Are there any others like it?
At the Series Detail page above, you'll find nine series recommendations in the "Read-alikes from NoveList" section in the right hand column.
1. Hover over the book cover and a short explanation of why it is a good match will appear.
2. To view a list of explanations for all nine at one time, click the Print All link at the top of the column.

Question #3:  I'd like to use this book, Hunger Games, to a) do a book report or b) as a suggestion for my book group--do you have any information on it?
You can find all of the content NoveList has to offer at the Title Detail page.

1. Enter Hunger Games in the Search box.
2. Leave the default All radio button selected, and click Search.
3. Click The Hunger Games link to access the Detail page.
4. Scroll to the bottom of the page, and click the Lists & Articles tab.
5. At the top, you'll find links to articles written about The Hunger Games. Beneath those, you'll find lists and articles that mention this title.

All 3 questions answered in a jiffy with the help of NoveList!  Now plug in your favorite series and see what comes up.

The animals will be tucked in for the night and the children will be sent home.

When the children return for their animals on Friday, Miss Carrie-Anne will tell them all about their exciting sleepover adventure!

About the book
When Claudia decided to run away, she planned very carefully She would be gone just long enough to teach her parents a lesson in Claudia appreciation.  And she would live in comfort-at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  She invited her brother Jamie to go, too, mostly because he was a miser and would have money

The two took up residence in the museum right on schedule.  But once the fun of settling in was over, Claudia had two unexpected problems: She felt just the same, and she wanted to feel different; and she found a statue at the museum so beautiful she could not go home until she had discovered its maker, a question that baffled even the experts.  The former owner of the statue was Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler And without her help Claudia might never have found a way to go home.

All Booked Up Reads Still Missing for May

book cover
May's book discussion selection is Still Missing  by Chevy Stevens. Grab your copy at the upstairs Circulation Desk and join the group for the dissection at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2nd.

From the Publisher
On the day she was abducted, Annie O’Sullivan, a thirty-two-year-old realtor, had three goals—sell a house, forget about a recent argument with her mother, and be on time for dinner with her ever-patient boyfriend. The open house is slow, but when her last visitor pulls up in a van as she’s about to leave, Annie thinks it just might be her lucky day after all.

Interwoven with the story of the year Annie spent captive in a remote mountain cabin—which unfolds through sessions with her psychiatrist—is the second narrative recounting the nightmare that follows her escape: her struggle to piece her shattered life back together, the ongoing police investigation into the identity of her captor, and the disturbing sense that things are far from over.

Still Missing is a shocking, visceral, brutal, and beautifully crafted novel about surviving the unsurvivable—and living to bear witness.

Fragile is April's Book of the Month

This month's featured novel, Fragile, comes from author Lisa Unger. Copies are available at the upstairs Circulation Desk. Get one while they last!

From the Publisher
Everybody knows everybody in The Hollows, a quaint, charming town outside of New York City. It’s a place where neighbors keep an eye on one another’s kids, where people say hello in the grocery store, and where high school cliques and antics are never quite forgotten. As a child, Maggie found living under the microscope of small-town life stifling. But as a wife and mother, she has happily returned to The Hollows’s insular embrace. As a psychologist, her knowledge of family histories provides powerful insights into her patients’ lives. So when the girlfriend of her teenage son, Rick, disappears, Maggie’s intuitive gift proves useful to the case—and also dangerous.

Eerie parallels soon emerge between Charlene’s disappearance and the abduction of another local girl that shook the community years ago when Maggie was a teenager. The investigation has her husband, Jones, the lead detective on the case, acting strangely. Rick, already a brooding teenager, becomes even more withdrawn. In a town where the past is always present, nobody is above suspicion, not even a son in the eyes of his father.

“I know how a moment can spiral out of control,” Jones says to a shocked Maggie as he searches Rick’s room for incriminating evidence. “How the consequences of one careless action can cost you everything.”

As she tries to reassure him that Rick embodies his father in all of the important ways, Maggie realizes this might be exactly what Jones fears most. Determined to uncover the truth, Maggie pursues her own leads into Charlene’s disappearance and exposes a long-buried town secret—one that could destroy everything she holds dear. This thrilling novel about one community’s intricate yet fragile bonds will leave readers asking, How well do I know the people I love? and How far would I go to protect them?
