September is Library Card Sign-Up Month!
Did you know that a library card is the most important school supply your child can own? From free access to authoratative databases and homework help, to educational programs and activities, the library has something for every student.
This is why each September our Children's Librarian, Carrie-Anne, works with the teachers at Griffin Memorial School to make sure each 1st Grader has the opportunity to get a public library card.
Does your child have a library card?

All Booked Up Reads The Heretics Daughter for October
Pick up a copy of Kathleen Kent's The Heretic's Daughter at the Upstairs Circulation Desk, then join the group on Wednesday, October 5th at 6:30 p.m. for a lively discussion.
From the Publisher
Martha Carrier was one of the first women to be accused, tried and hanged as a witch in Salem, Massachusetts. Like her mother, young Sarah Carrier is bright and willful, openly challenging the small, brutal world in which they live. Often at odds with one another, mother and daughter are forced to stand together against the escalating hysteria of the trials and the superstitious tyranny that led to the torture and imprisonment of more than 200 people accused of witchcraft. This is the story of Martha's courageous defiance and ultimate death, as told by the daughter who survived.
Kathleen Kent is a tenth generation descendent of Martha Carrier. She paints a haunting portrait, not just of Puritan New England, but also of one family's deep and abiding love in the face of fear and persecution.

Four warrior Clans have shared the land around the lake as equals for many moons. But a prophecy foretells that three ThunderClan cats will hold the power of the stars in their paws. Jayfeather and Lionblaze know that they are two of the cats in the prophecy. Now the brothers must wait for a sign from StarClan to discover the identity of the third cat.
Meanwhile, Dovekit and Ivykit—kin of the great leader Firestar—are poised to become ThunderClan apprentices. Soon one sister will have an ominous dream—and will begin to realize that she possesses mystical skills unmatched by any other cat.
In the midst of a cruel season that threatens the lives of all four warrior Clans, bonds will be forged, promises made, and three young cats will start to unravel the secrets that bind them together.

The Best of Times is the Book of the Month in September
Grab your copy of September's featured novel by Penny Vincenzi at the upstairs Circulation Desk!
From the PublisherEverything can change in the blink of an eye. . .
On an ordinary London afternoon, a truck swerves across five lanes of traffic and creates a tangle of chaos and confusion. As loved ones wait to hear news and the hospital prepares to receive the injured, a dozen lives hang in the balance. A doctor is torn between helping the injured and hiding his young mistress; a bridegroom hopes to get to the church on time; a widow waiting to reunite with a lost love ponders whether she’ll ever see him again; and the mysterious hitchhiker, the only person who knows what really happened, is nowhere to be found.
Filled with suspense, romance, and more twists than a country highway, The Best of Times proves once again why Penny Vincenzi is the queen of happy endings.

Children's Room Closed This Week
The Children's Room was scheduled to be closed the first week in October for the installation of new windows, but the windows arrived early, so we'll be closed this week instead.
We are very excited about getting new energy efficient windows that we can actually open!
Here's a few things we won't miss about the old windows and their plexiglas covers:
- the dirt that finds its way in when the lawn is mowed
- the bugs that congregated between the window and the plexiglas
- the plexiglas that is a bear to take out for cleaning
- the cold air that seeps in
- the spider webs between the window and the plexiglas that we pretend are for Halloween
