From the Publisher
After a mean collector named Swindle cons him out of his most valuable baseball card, Griffin Bing must put together a band of misfits to break into Swindle's compound and recapture the card. There are many things standing in their way — a menacing guard dog, a high-tech security system, a very secret hiding place, and their general inability to drive — but Griffin and his team are going to get back what's rightfully his … even if hijinks ensue.

Return Your eBooks When Finished

Unlike downloadable audiobooks, eBooks can be returned earlier if you finish them before your 14 days are up.  The NH Downloadable Books consortium asks that you do this so there are more titles to loan, especially when you know their is a waiting list for an ebook you have checked out.

For example, there are currently 30 holds on Dead Reckoning by Charlaine Harris, and 60 holds on Chasing Fire by Nora Roberts.  Luckily, the consortium has 6 copies of the first and 9 copies of the later, but people will get them alot faster if they are returned when they are finished instead of when they expire.

All Booked Up Reads Undress Me In the Temple of Heaven for June

book cover
Pick up a copy of Jane Gilman's Undress Me In the Temple of Heaven at the Upstairs Circulation Desk, then join the group on Wednesday, June 1st at 6:30 p.m. for an exciting discussion.

From the Publisher
In 1986, Susan Jane Gilman and a classmate embarked on a bold trek around the globe starting in the People's Republic of China. At that point, China had been open to independent backpackers for roughly ten minutes. Armed only with the collected works of Nietzsche and Linda Goodman's Love Signs, the two friends plunged into the dusty streets of Shanghai. Unsurprisingly, they quickly found themselves in over their heads—hungry, disoriented, stripped of everything familiar, and under constant government surveillance. Soon, they began to unravel—one physically, the other psychologically. As their journey became increasingly harrowing, they found themselves facing crises that Susan didn't think they'd survive. But by summoning strengths she never knew she had—and with help from unexpected friends—the two travelers found their way out of a Chinese heart of darkness.

UNDRESS ME IN THE TEMPLE OF HEAVEN is a flat-out page-turner, an astonishing true story of naïveté, friendship, and redemption told with Susan's trademark compassion and humor.

From the Publisher
By all accounts seminary student Kevin Parsins is leading a good, if not virtuous, life. But like all people, Kevin has his secrets. And someone wants them revealed.

While driving home from a day at graduate school, Kevin receives a call from a mysterious stranger who calls himself Slater. Slater demands Kevin confess his sin in the next three minutes or the vehicle he is manning will be blown to pieces.

Thus starts a harrowing chain of events. After narrowly escaping his exploding car, Kevin continues to receive phone calls from Slater, each with another riddle, another consequence, and another three minutes to confess his sin.

The problem is Kevin is unsure of what that sin might be. And Slater's cycle won't stop until he figures it out.
