transformer photo courtesy of drouu on sxc.huI just received the following message through the Litchfield Police Departments Nixle system:

Please be advised that PSNH will be taking an emergency outage at 6 a.m. tomorrow, Sat. July 10th, for up to 30 minutes to replace a damaged substation regulator at a substation on Depot Street in Merrimack.

We suspect that the cause of this equipment failure is the extended heat wave, which has increased the loading on the substation regulator and caused a mechanical malfunction was discovered today. The damaged equipment will be replaced tomorrow at 6 a.m. to minimize disruption to customers. Over the weekend, PSNH electricians will make permanent repairs. This should be transparent to the public.

Approximately 1,200 customers, mostly in Litchfield but also in Merrimack, will be impacted.

In Litchfield, 1,087 customers in the northern half of town (north of and excluding Pinecrest Ave) will be effected.

In Merrimack, 134 customers near Railroad Ave and Chamberlin, will be impacted.
