Wanna be a Library Trustee?

The library has a 3-year trustee position on the ballot in March that no one is running for. If this is something that interests you, I encourage you to read the Library Trustee Job Description and the Board's Bylaws. Then contact the Board Chair, Diane Jerry, to let her know you are interested and she will call to discuss the position with you.

Then be sure to bring your new card each time you borrow materials so we can scan it and get you on your way!

Brush Up on Library Rules

child thinking courtesy of scol22
With the Young Readers' Room open once again,
I think it's a good time to brush up
on a few library rules:

  1. Children under the age of 10 must be accompanied by a responsible caregiver age 14 or older.

  2. Children under the age of 5 must be within visual and physical contact of a responsible caregiver age 14 or older at all times.

  3. Children under the age of 8 must be seated next to a responsible caregiver age 14 or older while using a Library computer.

  4. Patrons may not consume food or beverages in the Library.

  5. Patrons may use cell phones only on the Entry Level of the Library. Cell phones should be set to vibrate while in the building.

A complete list of library rules and regulations can be found in the iNFoRMaTioN BooTH or viewed here.

Tried and Tested Young Readers' Room Lives Up to Hype

Amelia Bedelia The Grand Reopening of the Florence C. Center Young Readers' Room was a huge success! Over 275 children, teens, and adults paid a visit during the Open House yesterday from 3:30-7:00. Cookies were gobbled up, books were borrowed, balloon creations were twisted, stories were told, and many songs were sung before the event closed.
Mr.Phil
Families were definitely impressed with the newly reopened space. Comments varied from "It's so bright and cheery!" to "Look at all the books!" to the all encompassing "WOW!" Many of the children in attendance could remember coming to the Young Readers' Room before the flood occurred for books, Story Time, and other activities. Still others had never had the pleasure of having their own room at the library; the only space they've ever known is that which was temporarily carved out for them upstairs.

Steve BluntAnd as the cherry-on-top-of-the-already-well-iced-cake, each child received a new book to take home (courtesy of an anonymous donor) as a parting gift.

Library Trustees Diane Jerry, Sheila Huston, Kristen Robert, Gail Musco, and Marilyn Soraghan were all on hand to greet our guests, hand out treats, and most importantly, help clean up! The success of the Open House was a very satisfying conclusion to the 4 ½ year ordeal they, and their predecessors, navigated through.

Visits from community officials--Police Chief O'Brion, Selectwoman Jewett, and Fire Chief Schofield--were very much appreciated. Each had positive things to say about the event and the reopened Young Readers’ Room, which had both our parking lot and Stage Road clogged with people coming and going.

If you weren’t able to attend the Open House, we hope to see you soon. Books will continue to be given out to children visiting the Young Readers’ Room for the first time for the rest of the month (while supplies last).
