You're Invited to the Grand Re-Opening of the Children's Room!

photo courtesy of woodsyThat's right, the Library Trustees and Staff are holding a Grand Re-Opening Celebration on Wednesday, February 20th. The open house will run from 3:30 until 7:00 in the Florence C. Center Young Readers' Room on the lower level of the library. To help us celebrate this momentous occasion, Mr. Phil will attend from 3:30-4:00, twisting balloon creations for children; Amelia Bedelia will make an appearance from 4:30-5:00, telling her story and gabbing with children;and Steve Blunt will meet children from 6:00-6:30, and sing a song or two. Every child will receive a new book to take home and enjoy, and light refreshments will be served.

I don't think I have to tell you what a thrill it is for us to have the Children's Room open again, but I will anyway--We are thrilled! Please bring your children in to check out their new digs--a beautiful, bright space that's all their own. And let's not forget that this re-opening is not just a joyous occasion for the Children's Department. The Adult Services Department won’t have to share their space anymore! They can spread out and breathe again. Be sure to take a look upstairs, starting February 19th, and get acquainted with the new arrangement of materials.

Don't forget: The library will be closed February 7th - 16th while we make this magic transformation, so come in and get your books before then!

All Booked Up Reads Adrift for February

book coverAdrift by Steven Callahan is the All Booked Up pick for February.

On the night of January 29, 1982, Steven Callahan set sail in his small sloop from the Canary Islands bound for the Caribbean. Thus began one of the great sea adventures of all time. Six days out, the sloop sank, and Callahan found himself adrift in the Atlantic in a five-and-a-half-foot inflatable raft with only three pounds of food and eight pints of water. He would drift for seventy-six days over eighteen hundred miles of ocean before he reached land and rescue.

Pick up your copy at the Circulation Desk and find out how he made it back alive. Discussion will take place at the library on Wednesday, February 6th at 6:30 p.m.

Book of the Month Clubs Reads When Light Breaks in January

As two women from opposite sides of the same sea meet, a tale unfolds that will draw readers into the heart's remembrances-and the tender awakenings of first love. Though bogged down in the stress of planning her elaborate wedding to a professional golfer, twenty-seven-year-old Kara Larson still makes time to visit ninety-six-year-old Maeve Mahoney at her nursing home. And as Maeve recounts the rambling story of her first love back in Ireland, Kara is driven to remember her own first love: childhood neighbor Jack Sullivan.

Copies are available at the Circulation Desk.
