Jamboree Fun
Well, I couldn't believe it, but the sun came out this morning, and the Camp Wannaread Jamboree went off without a hitch! From safe behind the big orange fence, children made camp journals, bug clips, and stick games. After re-fueling with a picnic lunch, the kids played Book Bingo until everyone had a book to take home. They were also tattooed, bubbled, and hula-hooped. By the way, it wasn't just the kids getting in on the action--quite a few moms were showing off tattoos this year as well. And then there was the hula-hooping Library Trustee... Let's just say everyone had loads of fun!
Special thanks to the many teen volunteers who made sure all the children had fun, and everything ran smoothly. We couldn't do it without them.

Survey Says...
Calling all teens--it's time for the first weekly contest in "A Summer Reading Quest." Try to name the most common answer to 8 different questions in Survey Says... for your chance at the prize. Entries must be submitted by 6:00p.m. on Friday to be eligible to win.
Next, score points toward defeating the first week's beast and collect your reward. 6 points are needed, and can be scored by reading, or combining reading with other activities. Defeat 5 of the 7 weekly beasts to earn your portion of the treasure: a free movie pass to O'Neil Theatres in Londonderry.
Why did the knight go to the dentist? To get his teeth crowned!

Camp Wannaread Jamboree
Don't forget--the Camp Wannaread Jamboree is this Thursday from 11:30-1:30. The Jamboree kicks off with several different arts & crafts, hula hoops, bubbles and tattoes. Next it's lunch. Bring a blanket and picnic lunch, and enjoy a meal with family and friends. Finally, after the food has been stowed away, it's time for Book Bingo. Bring a gently used book for the prize kitty and then listen carefully. Everyone goes home a winner.
I'm pleased to announce we have two new librarians on staff! Ann McKillop joins us as the Teen/Adult Services Librarian, and Carrie-Anne Pace as the Children's Services Librarian. Ann has recently returned to Litchfield after spending 8 years in Japan, and is excited to be serving the community. Carrie-Anne is already up to her eyeballs in summer reading, and can't wait for the children to start pouring in.
What better way to welcome new staff than by "giving them the business." Any child or teen who welcomes Ann OR Carrie-Anne by saying, "Gee, you look like the Queen of England" will earn 6 bonus points good for one extra raffle ticket this summer. (You may only do this once.) I double-dog-dare you!

"All Booked Up" inJuly
The library book discussion group, All Booked Up, will be reading Modoc: the True Story of the Greatest Elephant That Ever Lived, written by Ralph Helfer, in July. Modoc is a joint bio of an elephant and a man born on the same day, in the same German circus. One was the daughter of the star performer; the other was the child of the elephant trainer. This book has been given 4.5 out of 5 stars on Amazon.com, and should be available for check-out after June 28th.
All Booked Up meets the 4th Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. in the library.

A Summer Reading Quest for Tweens and Teens
What involves a knight names Sir Lancelot, magical beasts, and a dragon guarding treasure? Why, it's A Summer Reading Quest of course. From June 28th until August 12th, tweens and teens in grades 7-12 have the opportunity to defeat the magical beasts, thereby garnering the sleeping spell to use on the dragon, and claim their portion of the treasure. Along the way they'll read great books, enter goofy contests, and score points towards both weekly and end-of-Quest prizes. (It's the prizes that usually get their attention.) Yes, prizes such as fun novelty items, go-cart rides, movie passes, and the coveted $50 gift card to a local merchant, are all up for grabs this summer.
Register at the Main Desk, pick up your info packet, and start working on that first beast. Registration is ongoing during the 7 week club, and Questers may come in as little or as much as they like. And don't forget to look out for low flying dragons!
